Mission Statement
Our mission is to empower and inspire youth through sports by providing exceptional training and certification for coaches and staff. We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that promotes the physical, mental, and emotional development of young athletes. By equipping our staff with the knowledge, skills, and ethical standards necessary to excel, we aim to create a supportive community where every youth can thrive, achieve their personal best, and cultivate a lifelong love for sports.
MANDATE
The LYSL training and certification program for staff involved in youth sports is established to ensure that all coaches, trainers, and support personnel are fully prepared to provide a high standard of care, education, and mentorship to young athletes.
Our mandate includes:
Standardization of Training: Develop and implement standardized training curricula that address the diverse needs of youth sports, ensuring all staff receive consistent and comprehensive instruction.
Certification Process: Establish a robust certification process that assesses the knowledge, skills, and ethical practices of all staff members, ensuring they meet the required standards to work with young athletes.
Ongoing Professional Development: Promote continuous learning and professional growth through regular workshops, seminars, and refresher courses to keep staff updated on the latest developments in sports science, safety, and coaching techniques.
Safety and Well-being: Prioritize the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of young athletes by training staff to recognize and address potential risks, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Inclusive Practices: Foster an inclusive atmosphere by training staff to respect and embrace diversity, promoting equal opportunities for all young athletes regardless of background, ability, or identity.
Ethical Standards: Instill a strong sense of ethical responsibility in all staff members, emphasizing the importance of integrity, sportsmanship, and fair play.
Evaluation and Feedback: Implement regular evaluation and feedback mechanisms to monitor the effectiveness of training programs and certifications, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.
Staff Certification Requirements
It is mandated that all volunteer staff who deal directly or indirectly in with youth, with ANY LYSL sport, attend the LSYL standardized training & certification.
- 1 member must be currently certified in CPR or have a staff member with medical personnel credentials
- 1 member must be first aid or have a staff member with medical personnel credentials
- ALL football staff members must be USA Football Certified (certificate must be uploaded to staff dashboard)
- All staff members must attend LYSL certification
- All cheer staff must take the Youth Cheerleading & Dance Alliance (YCADA) NA101 Course
Certification Dates & Times
Certification will be virtual on the dates below and will require a LAPTOP to attend...... NO CELL PHONES!!
Regular Certification Training July 21st @ 4pm EST
Late Certification Training August 25th @ 4pm EST

LYSL Staff Certification Cost
Regular $20 coaches fee.
Late $40 (after July 20th)
*Certification badges will be issued by the LYSL Commissioner to the Association Owners for distribution*
***Failure to attend and obtain certification requirements will result in that staff member being removed from the coaching roster and non issuance of their LYSL certification badge.***
